I am thinking about how I read in the reports that the shooter had contacted another person expressing desire to go back .....and was told to contact an Elder. The man seemed to me to be reaching out for help and got put off...and since he had called this person, he was put off by someone he felt could make a difference. I would hate to be in the shoes of the person the shooter called...for I would feel so guilty, thinking I could have said something else and none the tragedy would have happened. The JW are taught to be cold hearted towards a fellow man...can you imagine if Jesus were walking the earth, he would have said ,"talk to an elder". I am ashamed that I once thought the way JW handled people is correct, because it doesn't take much critical thought and study to see the shunning of disfellowshipped and those who disassociate isn't scriptural. So if no JW has anything to do with me, am I not reaping what I unwittingly sowed? Are not many of us?
A though on the shooting tragedy

Way premature to come to that conclusion. So far it's trending the guy was a total nut job

It indeed sounds like the man was mental, and had been for some time. I'm more concerned about his wife, who may have been coerced or intimidated into participating, only to be shot in the back by the man.

If he was a nut job, the elders likely knew he was a nut job and didn’t refer him to proper help, instead it seems they excommunicated and shunned him likely exacerbating the issue. Given the time and descriptions it sounds like he was there perhaps on a judicial committee or review to reinstate and wasn’t happy with the outcome?
Not sure about the wife, seems she was either an accomplice or a victim, depending on who you ask, but it seems this was premeditated and the wife didn’t warn anyone that her husband was making a bomb at home, making her at least an accomplice to that part of it.
The WTBTS also made sure to refer to them as ex-JWs meaning they want to officially distance themselves from them for some reason, great compassion there.

I think she was part of the plan--she had to know of the packed boxes of personal items to be given to certain people. One source I read said she backed the truck up. If he was out of the truck and she was driving, she could have driven away.

Court records show Apodaca was fired from his employment with Sturgeon Electric Co. in June 2021. Later, he reportedly told a union representative that he would shoot his wife and the rep before coming “after the people responsible at Sturgeon.”
I go with the total "nut job" opinion.

The elduhs are NOT PROFESSIONALS in any area of medicine. This man could've been referred to board-certified physicians (regardless of insurance or financials). However, it's very unfortunate that WT has spoken against members pursuing psychological help; they continuously/mantrally suggest to the point of mandating for them to "PRAY" and "RELY ON JEHOVAH" at every juncture. These "suggestions"/"mandates" AREN'T ANY HELP to anyone! This cultporation has and still causing more issues due to their HEINOUS HIERARCHY's PERSONAL THOUGHTS on all types of matters! 🤨🤬

Sounds like someone has a claim against this union for doing nothing!

If a non appointed JW is approached by a D/F person the correct response, indeed the only thing to say , is to come to a meeting and speak to the elders.
I recall doing that once when a woman I met in D to D ministry said the same thing. It is not a fob off but the only path back .
