J.R. Brown is good at not answering questions directly.

And is it me or did he not tell outright lies?

Caller: Do you allow members to vote....for mayor, president, etc..?

J.R.: We do not form regulations that require other people to live up to what is stated.

Interviewer: But do you discourage members to vote?

J.R. Of course we do not discourage it for that would not be appropriate each one makes up his own mind

I can't believe he said that. Have they changed their policy on voting lately? Is it now a personal decision? Can an elder hold his position if he votes? How about a pioneer? If not, that is a REGULATION THAT REQUIRES PEOPLE TO LIVE UP TO WHAT IS STATED.

He dodges around 90% of the questions. Interviewer states that Mormons, 7th Day Adventists and JW's all have similar "end of the world" philosphosies. JR denies that and says they believe in the last days and they put emphasis on good news. Yeah, but THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE QUESTION RAISED! He was totally trying to avoid being compared to any other religion - I wish the interviewer would have had more time to back him against a wall on that one because he so obviously avoided the real point of the statement.

He totally implied the organization is growing rapidly, but the stats show differently.

Listening to him talk brings back memories.

Great reply! We all know policies change from week to week!!! I guess it depends where you live as well and who interprets what is right and wrong like an elder or your conscience, dosen't msatter where you go they all believe or take it differently!

The doublespeak in that intereview was appalling. I noticed how careful J.R. Brown was to not directly answer any of the questions. As an example, when responding to the question concerning prophetic dates for the end of the world, Mr. Brown emphasized that the JWs have never stated the "day and the hour," which is true; however, he totally ignored the fact that the Society has repeatedly mentioned specific "years" and statement such as "everything will occur before the end of the 20th century."

Then, too, I just love the "conscience" issues he remarks on. Why doesn't he also state that any JW who doesn't exercise his or her conscience in the JW-proscribed manner concerning voting, or saluting the flag, or taking a blood transfusion is quite likely to be disfellowshipped. Yes, they make a conscience decision, but there is a figurative "loaded gun" pointed directly at them.

I take back everything I have ever said about the Adam and Eve myth. It's obvious to me, now, that I have been wrong. This little radio interview has proven to me once and for all, that talking snakes do exist.
