My mom has always made light of the whole 1975 issue. She has used the standard lines that it was individual jws who blew the whole thing out of proportion to what the "society" had written. When I brought the subject up a few years back, (back when I was inactive but still a partial believer), she told me that she and my father had never believed that the end was coming in 1975. Well, I just gotta say now mom...Gotcha!
My mom and I recently spent a weekend together in a villa on the beach where I grew up. We had a number of glasses of fabulous red wine.
We talked about many subjects and many memories. My mom, (and I by default I think), has always been a real nutrition fanatic. I mentioned that in Okinawa, they live really long lives, have very few wrinkles or grey hairs, and that apparently they do not even have a word for menopause. All of that because they eat so much soy (supposedly). That triggered a very early memory for me and I said that I remembered how she used to cook soy beans for me all the time, and how much I enjoyed them. She said, 'acch...that was because we had a huge sack of them in the attic...well, Armageddon was coming you know. Soy beans are a complete protein and we wanted to be prepared.' Here I am revealing my age, but at the time that I was being fed soy beans, it was 1973 - 1974. I just looked at her and thought in vino veritas. LOL LOL LOL!!
Gotcha!

Your mom suffers from the same programmed lack of memory that the Governing Body itself does, and which it attempts to inculcate (how's that for a good JW word?) in the "minds" of the believers.

How true! I love that: "same programmed lack of memory".
Yuck.."inculcate"...sounds like they're growing bacteria.

I've been thinking about this and I've realized that there's no way that I could have remembered eating soy beans in 1973 or 1974....it had to have been at least 1976/7...which makes more sense, really....since 1975 had passed and mom and dad felt free to use up those soy beans!
I would have simply edited my post...but I don't see that option??
