Advanced Hearing Aid Technology for less than $200

Hope I'm not out of line asking this question...just want to know if anyone has had any experience with this.

I just saw an ad in Popular Mechanics about "MDHearingAid". It says it uses the same kind of technology that costs thousands more and is less than $200. It's "high-quality FDA-registered, is medical-grade offering sophistication and high performance, and works right out of the box." The prices I've heard up till now are over $2,000, and I haven't felt that we could afford it. Clyde has needed one for quite awhile, and I might too.

I'd be skeptical. My friend took her husband to an ear, nose, throat, specialist, and he referred them to a high end audiologist who fits people for the latest type that fits down into the ear -- invisible from the outside of the ear and they were at least $7,000. I don't think they work as effectively as the normal type where there's visible wires/apparatus showing, but I may have misunderstood.

It's a problem. A lot of people go to Costco that has a really good hearing aid company selling hearing aids at good discounts -- many different brands/prices to choose from but not the type I referred to above.

Costco was also recommended from someone that got it there. I think my dad fell for a deal that was cheap and it didn't really work because we found it in a pile.

I know I need a hearing aid but from everyone I know who has had one or had a family member who needed one....they are the biggest rip off of our time. The ones who had one eventually lost it or just put it in a drawer. Who the hell can afford several thousand dollars out of their pocket to make up the cost that their insurance or medicare doesn't cover?

Took my 88 year old mother to get hearing aids. Of course she needed the $5,000 a pair kind per the so called doctor of audiology.After 2 weeks and three trips for adjustments, she took the things back. Fortunately in our state they are required to give you a 30 day tryout. Cost me $200 for the "doctor".

I wouldn't expect much from a $200 set.
