My wife just related experiences at the local Kingdom Hall of several locals having made two-week "need is greater" trips to Israel, ostensibly to preach there... what's up with this nuttiness?

WT-world is inventing all sorts of crap to try to make people feel "special", that they are actually doing something substantive. This is just one of their initiatives.
They're just lubricating the axle of the hamster wheel.

It is an attempt to tie in with the source of all that crap. (Which is blatant when you see Israel is the focus of the LIE-ble.) This increases the energy that can be harvested toward enslaving the whole of humanity.
For the privilege of helping everyone end up in shoebox apartments in a city like New York City, you are wasting huge amounts of money. Including all the gotcha fees, I would expect to pay as much to waste two weeks in Israel as I would pay for a whole monster box of silver Eagles or Maple Leafs. You could go to just about any place in Europe and spend the time enjoying famous sites for about the same. Personally, I would rather have the monster box of silver.

To keep people in the fold the corporation needs to convince them of their relevance, otherwise...why bother.
It's a great scheme. The faithful seem to need it...like that Netflix movie "Wild Country", they would rather stay in a cult than leave and think for themselves.

I dont know about preaching there but a London based travel co. Used to run holidays to Israel for JW's. These were WT themed and pioneers used to get freebies or hefty discounts to act as guides .
Nice work if you can get it....
