I'm not sure where to put this under, but I got a message from my anti-virus service. They were informing me that Facebook left everyone's password open for any employee of Facebook to see. They strongly recommended people to change their password to their Facebook account. They said Facebook is supposed to send out an e-mail to inform people of this, but I have not heard a word from Facebook. I just wanted to pass this message to everyone here.

Wouldn't hurt to change it otherwise just in case.

If there was something gone wrong with the software I'm sure they would make a notice to all subscribers.

Tameria- I don't know what kind of working environment you're in, but if you have an email account through your job, the IT people can read your email without knowing your password.

To give you an example I used to work for Morgan Stanley, one of the MD's (Managing Director) I worked with was in charge of reading over various employees company emails to make sure they weren't saying anything x-rated and sending jokes out on the companies account, needless to say she certainly didn't have the email to those accounts she was reading over. Don't ever think a password is key for anyone not to view your emails and social media.

This is actually true. Facebook did not encrypt passwords in certain databases which all employees had access to. So if you're re-using passwords across various sites, you should change the password(s).

According to Facebook, this was internal and not 'abused' by their employees, so they don't have to consider it a disclosure under any privacy laws so whether or not they do announce it to the affected customers is another thing.

    haha Fedupjw,

I know the parents of my kids school use it a LOT as a way of communicating instead of an email list. Many plans are make, events created, and even used to ask what the homework was when cild was home sick.

I see a lot of activity on FB

    Apologies, however.....

"Facebook said that it had found no evidence of abuse and that it would begin alerting millions of its users and thousands of Instagram users about the issue. The company said it would not require people to reset their passwords."

Wish someone would invent the next facebook, and maybe call it myspace or something.
