Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, whith which more then half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon then the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind.

Like your post. Reading Thomas Paine's "Age of Reason" was the biggest aid to me in my recovery from being indoctrinated in the borg. The man had a very logical mind, and I was unable to refute anything he said about the bible. When you stop and think about some of the bible stories we read our little children...it's a wonder they don't all have emotional problems:)
Along the same lines, Bertrand Russell and Robert Ingersoll have written some great works about the Bible to expose how ridiculous many of the Bible stories are. They truly were great free thinkers of their time, much like Thomas Paine.
