I got the link to this site in an email from my (now) JW baby sister. Who was totally mesmerized by the site, btw.

I thought it was funny since it tickled my brain and I wanted to figure it out. Once I did (had to do a spreadsheet first) the first person I showed it to was my JW wife. My goal in showing it to her was to trip her out. I did. Her first thought was that something spooky was going on. I couldn't blame her. At first, who could?

Her first plan of attack was to tell me not to move the pointer over to the number she had picked. That way the pc wouldn't 'know' what the number was. Ok. Who knows what those geeky pc programmers can do? Sounded reasonable.

When it *still* guessed her number correctly, she went to phase 2 and told me not to say anything (out loud). Again... those geeky pc programmers in Austin and San Jose can be mighty clever, and who knows what stuff you say out loud in front of your computer might be heard somewhere? So I kept my trap shut while I thought of Native Americans, 100 yrs ago, being afraid of having their picture took.

When the blue ball guessed her number, I saw her mind whirring. She did the last thing she could think of and simply removed me from the equation. She didn't tell me what her number was and just kept it to herself.

I was hurt. Offended. "So, you telling me your number out loud is what's making this website "know" your number?" Almost as if *I* was in league with the deeminz somehow. (Well... I *am* apostate.)

"No, I'm not saying that. I'm just sayin'..."

    *shakin' my head here*

    Anyway...

... I click on the blue ball. Whadda ya know. The dang thang *still* "guessed" her number! "Oh-my-gawd!" I say, ruffling my brow. "Now, how in hell did it do that?"

Right away, she said "that's enough," got up, and left the room in a minor panic. It was obvious that deeminz were up in our living room right that very moment. After letting her worry about it for a minute (not actually 60 seconds... for the ebonics-challenged of our group), I called her back into the room and showed her what was going on. She got it. When she did, I took particular delight in whispering the words: "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS MAGIC."

Although it was never my intent when I first saw it, one day maybe I'll build on the simple lesson this clever webpage offers and help my wife out of the web she's in.
