Yesterday Thunder gave blood for the second time<YEA THUNDER> the tech said his hemoglobin was low in his left arm. But he ALWAYS has a great iron level etc. so she took blood from the right arm to test and it was fine. hmm What could be the problem? Any help appreciated!

That doesn't make any sense. Blood circulates throughout the entire body. There shouldn't be any difference in the hemoglobin level on one side vs the other.

This sounds like a Scully question.

Jeff: I thought it sounded strange but was worried it could be indicative of a blockage or something??? I guess she could be wrong

I don't think a blockage would explain it. Hemogobin is the iron based compound within red blood cells that carries oxygen. A blockage would prevent blood generally from passing into the affected areas. Symptoms that I would expect from that would be weakness or tingly feelings, or inability to move. If you're worried (don't blame you) have him go to a doctor and get it checked out.

FYI, my Dad, my brother and my sister are all physicians. I grew up talking about this stuff. It's not a bad rule to go check out anything that really worries you. If your Doc thinks you're a hypochondriac he'll recommend a psychiatrist. If not, you may catch something early, which makes a big difference in the outcome of treatment.

    Jeff:

Nope not a hypocondriac LOL But just don't want anything to happen to my Thunder <who has an aversion to Dr.s> LOL He does have problems with ciculation in that arm as you said tingling etc. I hope it's just she had no idea what she was doing LOL

    Thanx

That's the problem. Ask your physician.

    Shelia,

the tech was bluffing u, probably b/c the lab screwed up on the first HgB test, so to cover, she told u the hgb in left arm was ok. As has been said, that cannot be. The hgb level is the hgb level-that simple. Now blood pressure can be different in the right and left arm. But now blood levels.

quick answer-insit the lab give u a straight answer about his hgb level and tell them what the tech told u.
