What most people don't realize is the story makes it sound as though god is giving men these amazing new laws for people to govern themselves yet these same laws already existed Hammurabi's laws and the Egyptian neg-confessions. -

Great video. Christopher Hitchens versions are far more insightful and beneficial. He really shows how uninspired the "divine" version is.

I guess even the ancient Hebrews needed established laws to create civil control over its own population within their uniquely separate civilization. This is where the ancients utilized the fear of perceived gods to whom supposedly controlled the workings of the earth in all their power and glory.
Religions today still use that fear and utilize it for other compelling reasons.
