  The Italian Watch Tower Society, hardly known for its appreciation for "objective sociology", urges its followers to buy copies of a book by Massimo Introvigne, providing instructions on how to place mass orders with another Alleanza Cattolica member (a right-wing group), bypassing the bookshops. Not surprisingly, the book happens to be a new edition of an older book on the Jehovah's Witnesses, systematically purged this time -- as we can see from a comparative table -- of any information that the hierarchy of the group might find not to its taste.   Good catch, Osarsif!

  I knew that Introvigne has been a ridiculously biased cult apologist for many years, but getting right into bed with Watchtower like this is positive proof of his unobjectivity. He's no more a scholar than he is an astronaut. It also once again shows that Watchtower is not interested in facts, but only in promoting its organization.

  Around 1997 the Watchtower Society had scheduled to have several of its people, including one Carolyn Wah, a WTS lawyer, attend Introvigne's' CESNUR conference in Turin. A JW critic, David Reed (writer of the booklet Comments from the Friends), found out about the upcoming attendance by Watchtower people and published a critical article in his booklet. Watchtower people quickly canceled their attendance with excuses like, "We have other engagements." Introvigne then had his lawyer write a letter to Reed threatening to sue him for slander, the problem being that Reed had exaggerated the significance of Introvigne's membership in a supposedly innocuous international vampire society named "The Transylvanian Society of Dracula" (a number of Introvigne's associates seem to be members of this society; see http://www.cesnur.org/dracula_texts.html for details). Reed later published a blurb that the society appeared to be innocuous.

  This incident was much like the Watchtower's getting in bed with the UN via becoming an NGO. As soon as their membership was publicized, they backed out in embarrasment.
