I remember years ago hearing the following story regarding Johnny Carson and John Denver. Anyone know if this actually happened? Or is it one of those tales we always hear about? I do distinctly remember someone telling me that they themselves saw this on television.
It just occured to me after reading a recent post about Jay Leno. He has had his fair share of witness jokes, and someone mentioned how Johnny Carson had better witness jokes, and you could tell that he did not like the witnesses at all. Hence, my question here. Here is the story as I understood it.
At some point John Denver had a concert, during which he was going to sing a patriotic song. Before doing so, he mentioned that if there were any witnesses in the audience, if they would please leave, as this was going to offend them. Apparently, he had a dislike for them for their neutral stance. He went along with his song and concert.
Sometime after this, he was on Johnny Carsons show, and they were talking. At some point, Johnny asks about this incident, and if it were true, did he kick witnesses out of his concert? Denver acknowledged the situation, and explained that someone so down on the United States basically could kiss his ass and leave his concerts. At this point, Johnny looks at Denver, and tells him that one of his best friends is a witness, and then proceeded to kick Denver out of his show. Told him to get lost, and never come back.
Because of this, witnesses were not supposed to listen to John Denver for his anti-witnesss behavior.
Anyone heard of this, seen it, or anything?
