Can we get the most massive shout out for retired surgeon Dr. Don MacNamarra. At point 16.29 in the radio show You can hear him discuss doing what I have always dreamed of doing.

A young woman came in through.A & E, victims of an RTA, with a ruptured spleen. There is no alternative in this case but immediate surgical intervention and literally pints of blood. As Don States, she was literally minutes away from dying.

As the team began to operate the message came through that her faith required she accept no blood. Don was uncertain about his legal situation and as it turns out 2 of the four persons in the 'car group' demanding no blood (Who were safe and well) were, I believe, misleading the doctors by calling the woman their 'sister' but would not elucidate as to whether they had kinship.

Don, unsure, gave the woman blood thereby saving her life. When later questioned the patient said she was glad she had the blood and that the sin 'was on him" (Dr. MacNamarra)!!

Good on him for doing what he did .

I often wonder how often/ many JW family members who took the stand on supporting a relative / kin in not taking blood or even not giving consent for a loved one / child when a doctor advised that they needed it to save there life ,and have now come to the conclusion that the religion is wrong ,how they would feel today knowing their loved one died needlessly , and they had the opportunity to save them but didn`t. ?

That would be a hard cross to bear I would imagine.

    They also are victims.

So, she’s glad he sinned, but she’d be happy for Jehovah to condemn his for doing so. JW hypocrisy never ceases to amuse.

smiddy3 - quite agree, it must be a very heavy burden to carry around for the rest of your life. Is it right for the rest of us to say that we are 'glad' we never had to face that choice? For when I was PIMI I would have refused my child blood, and it is only good fortune that I have not had to pay the price for that decision.

I`m sad to say I would have done the same thing when I was PIMI ,I was so sure it was the truth and that Jehovah was THE God to be worshipped.

I don`t know how I would have coped if the situation had arrived and I had refused a transfusion for either one of my boys ,or my wife or even if I would have coped at all.

Thank you for your honesty U.A. I`m not sure many would or could face that reality .
