This brave man is very lucky. Ten years in jail, 2,000 lashes and a £4,000 fine is easy street.
Outspoken atheism & ridiculing Koranic verses usually end in public beheading. Done peacefully, of course.

Every culture is proud. And many cultures are ancient. But being proud and being ancient says nothing about the value of your culture.
If a culture doesn't value human life and doesn't value open and honest discussion then it's a culture not worth preserving.
