    I am a cooing hawk.
I considered myself a conscientious objector (not a pacifist) when I was BOrg - how clever we all were with our turns of phrase. Anyway, I am finding the Kurdish people and culture really interesting, as are so many cultures in the area are. I have my Dad's diary from WW2 - I am compiling his history of the North African campaign. There's a similarity with the Allies' road to Tunis in late 1942. Anyway it makes GW2 seem familiar. I do hope our troops do their business as surgically as possible and get out soon. Tunis got nasty and bogged down for six months - my Dad left for Italy 10 months after that. A lot of the players are the same - the French sulking because they didn't get picked as team captain. But in 1942 they (Vichy French controlled colonial troops in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia ) where shooting at the Allies for a few days and when they had negotiated something face saving the French were back in the game on the Allied side.Vichy France itself was occupied within 12 hours by the Germans, suprisingly absent in GW2. The casualties of the 1 million men who passed through North Africa would be considered unacceptable today. In WW1 my Grandad was stationed in Mesopotamia - I know nothing about his time there, it's a shame I never talked to them about their experiences before they died. Anyway I liked this site. And I thought you might too.

I agree that there is alot of ancient history in that part of the world which is interesting but just to inform you not many here think the bible is even worth discussing on this site.It would be interesting to see what kind of archeological finds are made in the area after they are done blowing it to pieces altho the city of babylon itself if I remember correctly is one of the most cursed places on the planet according to the bible.

I disagree with heathen about the people who frequent (or lurk) on this board. There are many who do not feel the Bible is worth discussing. But since there is a large cross-section here, there are many who do find the Bible very relevent.

I think it's always interesting to learn historical information. The Kurds are interesting, especially now. I think that diary is a great possession.
