The Hope Credit for students allows $1,500 for tuition and fees paid during 2002. A student has to be enrolled in an accredited higher education facility, I think at least half time (I'm enrolled full time) and can only claim this two times in a lifetime. In addition, they can only claim this during their first two years of school. In other other words, at the beginning of 2002, I needed to be at least a Freshman or Sophmore. This is my question: My tuition was paid by grants, student loans, and tuition remission from my employer at the time - can I still take this Hope credit? I'm just putting a feeler out there and intend to ask a professional, but am curious to see if anyone here knows anything.

Writerpen,
Did you receive Form 1098-T from your college? This is your Tuition Payments Statement. Box #1 on the form contains qualified tuition and related expenses. You must use Form 8863 available at: www.irs.gov
