  The dream stage of wishful thinking eventually crashes with reality and slowly turns to the nightmare stage do you see the predicament the GB is in and what extremes they cause in human suffering for their followers that they are willing to put them thru?   What if the WT/JW are really on autopilot at this point. The original schemers that know the truth, invented a religion to recruit an army of a free sales forces for the publishers products. Time Cards / Points / Quotas - pushing products - really? What does God need with time cards or logs? Building up their real estate holdings with free labor. Which verse was that?
  

  And the original group is past dead. What if those running the asylum have been so brainwashed in the past that they really believe it? Child abuse victims tend to pass on the abuse to the next generation - only recently are people coming out - how many generations has this been going on? They are without any original direction.   The thing with WT's fantasy cycle is that they are hell-bent on infecting as many as possible with their WT fantasy virus.

  I often correct my students (in music) when they 'go off on autopilot' and are not paying attention. In music it is not always a bad thing but to be in sync with a group who are reading music it can be bad. The dissonance is not pretty.

  The borg are not reading the music...they don't see the key signature, the time signature, the rest, the count,....they are out of harmony and out of sync. Either fix it or please stop the discordant music. It's hurting the ears!

  I would not say autopilot, because the people at the top of the apex know exactly what they doing and what is beneficial to them. They can care less what is happening below the clouds. They direct the organization where they want it (most of the time). Delusional are the members who live in wishful thinking that Armageddon is behind the corner, and a New World is arriving shortly.

  GB can go to any extreme they want. Totalitarian governments do that. Since 1950's more than 50,000 JWs died due their blood policy. GB does not care. They present them to its public as a martyr for the Truth. These men are charlatans and they know exactly what they doing. Do not underestimate the illusion they created. While the delusion is a strong part of any totalitarian regime, they have worshipers, followers, live of idle luxury and free of criminal prosecution. Once any of these pillar of the delusion cave is, they would have a problem.

  These guys are so hell bent on disfellowshipping members that sin that they even go so far as to say "Tears" are not a true indicator of repentant sorrow and for elders not to be fooled by them. Yes disfellowship a sobbing member who transgressed. How does that square with Jesus command to stop judging harshly.
