I've been thinking about the WT's disciplinary system -- marking, private reproof, public reproof, disfellowshipping.
Did you find their system oppressive while you were a JW?
Did you find the system theoretically okay but unfairly applied (playing favorites, etc.)?
Or were the problems not so much with the disciplinary system as with the legalistic rules -- chaperoning, dress codes, hair length, "privileges," reporting of time, etc.?
I`m sad to say I was too far indoctrinated and I blame myself because I wanted to believe it at the time.
The answer to your 3 questions is yes, yes, and yes. Pharisees.
It's jehober's way so how could it be oppressive, unfair, or too legalistic? How could you even think such thoughts?

It is applied differently depending on the status of the so-called offender and their family.
I certainly saw favoritism in the disfellowshipping of my daughter. About a year after, one of the elders who was on the judicial committee expressed remorse to me about how she was railroaded and the boy, a local favorite, was "repentant" enough to only be privately reproved.
The most guilty of the three elders is dead now. I had promised myself that I would turn his head around and make him see the error of HIS way. But he died first.He did a lot of damage in that congregation, not just my daughter. Pompous, self righteous, arrogant and Pharisaical, all wrapped up in one bastard elder.
