That they can serve a good purpose...although I thinketh much is controlled. But perhaps not as much as they "should" when it comes to the chronic abusers of such. I'm not at all fond of lying, cheating, lazy, and drug addicts/alcholics that have no qualms whatever in taking and taking - with little to no regard for ever giving anything in return.
Twenty years ago when I was reaching my own breaking point with alcoholism and just being a mental case in general, the local social services paid our electric bill. I've always understood the importance of giving back, and began volunteer work which turned into a paying job - working with families of known child abuse. GAWD, what an education that was. Ever since that time I've been involved in community service work of some kind. My husband, too, after he retired from the military and we got together. It's very rewarding.
I thinketh this government is too controlling, period. Just warming up to what this New World Order has to offer. It's the children and elderly that my heart strings get tugged at the most. Much of what I've seen could certainly use a major overhauling, but I keep focused, listening and learning.
Cheers,

If all people took back their personal responsibility you wouldn't have a controlling government, especially allowing international bankers to run the country unconstitutionally.

Well here in Canada, we have an extremely generous Welfare System, especially for illegal immigrants that pour in to this country by the thousands. They get free housing, clothing, food, free health care, free dental work, free education and all kinds of other perks that the average working man pays for.
I think Social Services should be there for some people, but certainly not for alot of the lazy, useless people that milk the System for all it's worth. A friend of mine is a Social Worker in Toronto and has seen 3 generations of one family all on Welfare. Why? Because they don't want to work and our government allows it.
In the Toronto Star a couple of months ago, I read an article on how at least 600 illegal immigrants who are presently living in the States, are facing deportation as stricter immigration laws are being enforced. So what were they going to do? They're coming to Canada!! And yes, our government will let them in and they'll give them all of the above benefits, they'll be on Welfare at the tax payers cost.

Whats the difference between the social services and a rottweiler?
You can get your kids back from a rottweiler.
The social services here in Britain either go in too strong and split families up, or they don't act at all and children die as a result of abuse.
If you've ever met a social worker then you will understand what the problem is. Too much political correctness has crept into policy.

I personally think they stick ther nose in were it doesn't belong and when it is needed they are no were to be found.I had one run in with them about 18yrs. ago .My husband is selfemployed and we had no health insur. at that time.My daughter was about seven and told her teacher she had a tooth ache.Well holy crap, school called social services and they paid me a visit. This bitch was so nasty, i explained that at this time i could not afford to take her but had planned to in a few weeks(my husband gets paid twords the end of each month). She ordered me to have it taken care of in five days or i would be investigated.I did like i was ordered and took her in and the dentist looked at her tooth and said it is barely a cavity, well he fixed the (spot) and one week later the bitch was back to check. She walked up looked at my daughter read over the dentist report and did not say a word and left.I bet you can guess how i feel.

I work for the Department of Children & Family Services. They really do great work. I know there are bad workers and things are not always fair. But if you knew how many cases that come through here on a regular basis with real child abuse issues you would have a great deal of respect for them.

Dare I stick my neck out on this one?
<---- social worker type person (actually social counselor)
Yes there are terrible workers. They are over-worked- underpaid and burnt out - especially if they work with abuse victims. After a while people become numbers and files - not flesh and blood. I have always refused to work in gov't agencies for that reason. My goal in doing this work is to help. Sadly there are too many people in this field who have given up caring for the people they work with. They are encouraged by the system to see people as a problem rather than as people who have problems. They set low expectations of people and get what they expect instead of encouraging them to reach out and up. Individuals who need assistance also need encouragement and someone to believe they can rise above where they are at the present. Without that belief and encouragement they have to reason to try.
I have seen many people in my years of working with those in need, I have seen the results of years of being told "You are worthless and will ever achieve anything more than what you have now". This kind of thinking doesn't help those who really want to make changes and only need help for a while - or some understanding of why they are where they are.
I have also seen waht a belief in a person and a little encouragement can do. People can do awesome things with their lives if you help them to see that getting assistance is a hand up not a hand-out
Do your best and try your best and hold your head high
