Right, this is from the Daily Mail so I don't know if it's supposed to be a scare story but I find it great news, if correct.

Wolves are making a comeback in France and tracks and droppings have been spotted on the outskirts of Paris.

    I hope this is correct.

    Vive le loup!

We have wolves in Canada, they are majestic but I wouldn't like to run into them. The range they have and the lifecycle is amazing - they roam around North America and return to an area years later after the prey have recovered. Lots of deer etc... move closer to town. Always be careful if there are deer because there might be wolves, a bear or a cougar interested in them too and the deer only has to outrun you.

I've seen wolves in the south of France in the Languedoc but only in fenced off animal parks. I wonder if they've been introduced because they are the natural predator of wild boar.

If you stay in the south of France you can hear the hunters going off with dogs to hunt boar early in the morning. Apparently France is becoming overrun with boar. Well if it says it in the Daily Mail it must be true LUHE!

Yeah, the Daily Mail is authoritative on all things European or "Johnny Foreigner" related.

Where I live in Poland (backyard is Kampinos National Park) the boars are viewed as a nuisance by the local farmers. They can tear up some ground. Apparently, we have re-introduced lynx to deal with the problem of too many deer. And, it appears we once again have wolves living in the park, not just migratory. Have not seen them yet (just pictures) or the lynx, but it would be nice. I spend a lot of time in the forest mostly following deer and moose trails. I have quite a nice collection of discarded antlers....

    Ditto.

We saw one right in town once, not too long ago.

Thought it was a coyote at first, until I realized, "...uhhh.... that's... way bigger than a coyote... ..."

they are majestic but I wouldn't like to run into them - yes, I wouldn't want to run into them in the Canadian wilderness. It's often claimed that they're fearful of humans but I'm an unlucky so-and-so. Wolves regularly run down and kill prey many times my weight, with greater strength, speed and endurance than I have.

Where I live in Poland (backyard is Kampinos National Park) the boars are viewed as a nuisance by the local farmers - any local wolf packs will hunt the boars.

we have re-introduced lynx to deal with the problem of too many deer - here in the UK, we also have too many deer. They are culled annually. Some scientists are discussing re-introducing lynx into the UK to deal with this same problem. I think the UK could sustain a population of lynx but not wolf. I don't think we have enough wilderness for wolves here.
