Ever wonder what it would look like if the Watchtower ran a country? This is one of the most insightful articles I've read in a long time about the Religious Police in Saudi Arabia. Some really eye opening stuff about what it's like to live under Sharia Law and the problems it creates - even for the head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in Mecca.

    Definitely worth the read!

    Interesting article.

There may be some interesting parallels to be drawn between the Saudi authorities and the WTS. Both are religious extremists to some degree. The main difference is the method of enforcement/deterrent: Saudi uses the sword; WTS uses shunning (although there was some shunning by Saudis in the article).

But the king faced a choice: to continue expansionary jihad, which would have invited conflict with the British, or to build a modern state. He chose the latter, even crushing a group of his own warriors who refused to stop fighting - interesting comment. It makes me think that the Saudi royals and clerics actually keep a lid on the religious crazies. If the House of Saud were overthrown, what would follow would probably be a lot worse.

I think the Saudi Government is the religious crazies. They have very strict religious laws and excessive punishments for minor infractions.

They have very strict religious laws and excessive punishments for minor infractions - you're right, they do.

But the Saudi gov keeps its inhuman religious punishments within its own borders.

How many Saudi-born extremists want to wage violent jihad against other nations? There must be many Saudis who have travelled to Syria/Iraq and joined the Nusra Front/ISIS/Jaish Al-Islam/etc. ...
