For the past couple of days, I have been attempting to change my avatar, but can't. Is this part broken, or is there something else I can do to change it? I have already changed my avatar over at Gravatar, but it is not showing up here either.

I'm having the same problem and someone else brought this up about a month ago. Not sure if Simon is interested in fixing the problem or if it hasn't been brought to his attention.
