This TED talk struck a chord with me. The speaker uses the analogy of the soldier and the scout mindset to illustrate how our cognitive biases when analysing information through the prism of our current beliefs leads to bad decisions. Thanks for Posting MM, I haven't listened to TED talks for a while, I shall take up the habit again. They are so informative.
As a JW I was of the "Soldier" mindset, always ready to defend my beliefs. I am now very much a "Scout", thanks to this Site and other resources on the Internet.
How are things going with yourself ? We met some years ago, P.M me if you care to, no pressure.

By the logic of that TED talk, every single goddamn Bush II-era neocon had a "soldier" mindset...
...because virtually every decision made by that administration was ideology-based, rather than reality-based.
