I tortured my wife this evening

She was on the computer, and I had her close her eyes, told her I had a suprise for her. I had found a couple month old Watchtower, and as her eyes were shut, I reached around and laid the magazine in front of her.

We have never as a couple had any witness magazines in our home, and had been quite a while since we had looked at one at all.

She looked at it, and groaned, as she read to me the same dribble that we hadn't seen first hand in years.

Come to think of it, she tortured herself as she continued to read the nonsense. She would blurt out different parts of the magazine, and we would suffer flashbacks.

When she finished it, she handed it over to me. I scanned the pages, and noticed that it could have been a magazine from 10 years ago. Nothing was different. Same crap, different magazine. This one was talking about how horrible work is for everyone, and how we should not work overtime, for that may cause us to miss meetings.

Interesting, I wonder how often the witnesses are using work as an excuse for missing meetings. Maybe this is a nation wide epidemic. Sure is an easy excuse, not too much they can say. Hey, I had to work overtime. Seems logical.

But they want those with work problems to go ahead and change careers that would not adversly affect time spent going to meetings, personal study, and don't forget, banging on doors.

I have read much on mind control, as well as books on just human behavior etc, and the more I glanced at this magazine, it so clearly showed how the WTS is able to control the average witness. Repeating the same stuff all the time until it is fully engrained in their minds.

    Scary.

Anyways, the magazine was a laugh, but brought about a deeper sense of sadness for those who have been so affected by what is inside, and brought back memories I am not so sure I wanted to remember.

One thing to talk about the nonsense on a site such as this, quite another when you know the "real truth" behind the Watchtower and then read it with your own hands. I have to get rid of it. To see again the pictures of the new order (doesn't new order sound cultish when you think about it?) with the witnesses building a home, with lions watching over the place. And then to see the Watchtower study articles. Was that not the most boring, mind numbing stuff to read? And the absolute worst was having to sit through an hour of going through the article at the meeting with questions and answers. I swear they went on for hours.........

Funny, an hour to sit and talk about the article during the meeting. Same time it takes to watch only 2 episodes of a favorite televison sitcom, or an hour of CSI. That tv show sure goes by quick, but that same hour during the study, I swear I could read War and Peace during that meeting.

Anyways, you will be glad to know, that I am disposing of that magazine tonight. Hmmmm, I do need something to start the fireplace with...........

My poor wife. She didn't deserve this tonight.

At some work places, overtime is a must. If you do not work overtime, you might end up without a job.

I guess the WTS expects these people to leave their job if it keeps them from meetings. I guess also that they will have to rely on Jah to support them until they find another job.

I am so glad I am out of that nut house of a religion!

Well, I must have missed that article, because here I am, at work, doing a 12-hour OT shift. Personally, I think the JWs I know would go insane with jealousy if they ever found out that what I earn tonight is probably more than what they earn in a week. AND I get to sleep all morning on Sunday when I go home at 7:15 am.

Do I miss meetings? Not at all. My life is so much better without them.

    Love, Scully

Do we really need to know what goes on in your bedroom??

but that same hour during the study, I swear I could read War and Peace during that meeting.

That hour dragged on so s-l-o-w-l-y on those hot summer afternoons, when all you wanted was to have an afternoon nap. Or to go to the beach to meet up with those who had morning meetings. What a drag they were.

    Freedom,

My poor wife. She didn't deserve this tonight.

I think a rather large bunch of flowers would really help her get over it. Oh....and have a beer yourself!

Thanks for the read. Yes, it's really quite different 'living the life' than just reading a dud article.

I could not believe he did this to me! Here I am with my eyes closed, and I hear this paper noise and I think "Oh how sweet - he brought flowers!" Then I open my eyes to see that magazine!

The article was very specific in one paragraph of an example of an exemplary witness, and electrician in this case, turning down overtime offered by the employer, but because he was such an "exemplary" employee, the employer accepted the refusal of overtime. The paragraph then goes on to say that it "Of course" may be necessary to change jobs if the employer expects overtime that will interfere with meetings and other spiritual pursuits. So easy to write that dribble holed up in a big building with all your living expenses covered by the people who are out in the real world!

Yeah, sure, just go out and "change jobs". It amazes me how they expect people to do stuff like that.

A CO came through some time ago, and in the meeting with elders and servants, he said that it would be best to change jobs rather than miss the Friday session of the District Convention, if the employer wanted you to work. We couldn't believe our ears. He went on to cite instances of how brothers ended up with better paying jobs after they made the change (of course, he wouldn't dare mention any who might have struggled since then).

Later, some of the brothers at that meeting could not help but have a laugh at what that CO proposed. One brother asked another if he was going to quit his business so he could attend.

For me though, it was no laughing matter. What some of these guys come up with, and how they can just sit up there in their cushy offices in Brooklyn and tell others to change jobs if they interfere with some 'theocratic activity" is beyond me. And COs - all their expenses are taken care of, so it really bothered me that he could sit there and say stuff like that.

    Rocketman,

This is just the.. wise, timely advice given... when that someone....doesn't have a job themselves!

    They have it sooo easy!

    ....no kids for starters!
