The Guardian, no less, is asking for stories of abuse at the hands of JWs. They seem to be doing a serious investigation, you can tell your story anonymously, on the record or in any combination to suit you.

This may be the start of a real spotlight on dubdom. This is something we should support. If I had personal knowledge or experience of child abuse I would be filling in the form.

    I concur.

Over on exjw Reddit some think nothing will happen with it. IDK, I think that maybe the government agency noticed what is happening in the Netherlands and thought they need to do something.

Thanks.Even if nothing happens at the magnitude that some might want, I think that it could be good for some people.

I was just reading the Guardian article on this. It is interesting that constituents' Members of Parliament are also asking about the inquiry taking place. About time someone scrutinised and called the JC elders to personal account.

This seems to be generating little enthusiasm yet a respected national newspaper on a mission can really start to make waves. I really think this should be supported, if we don't take our opportunities how can we expect change?

    Give investigative journalism a chance.

Child abuse of any kind is heinous. That we all know.

I really just can't help thinking that a call on exjw sites whether here or reddit will give a misguided few a reason to fabricate in order to get back at JW's or the Watchtower at any cost. A shame for sure when this will hurt any genuine cases.

    There. I said it.

any proper journalist like when the Boston Globe did the Catholic's looks for evidence to back up claims. There has to be evidence of not just the act but that someone tried to stop someone from calling the police. The first part is easy to get evidence on the second part is extremely hard and maybe impossible.

I know that this sort of appeal will bring out the nutters, that is a given. A decent journalist will be able to test the evidence that comes in. Those that have had experiences that still make them curl up with shame now have a platform to come forward. The barriers are psychological and real, trust has to be absolute but the possible rewards, massive.

Of course it's not easy. Decades of frustration say that it's not easy. The problem is that if nobody tries, nobody speaks out when there is an opportunity, nothing changes.

I say that it's better to try, have your head held high rather than just accept what has happened.
