I heard a man of the cloth discussing mothering Sunday on BBC radio 2 on Friday. It was initiated by the church to free children one day a year to spend precious time with their mothers because of the way children were used in service/ employment/coal mining etc. I've never heard that before and I found it sweet. It had nothing to do with venerating humans as far as this priest was concerned.

Hi Je.suis.oisif , yes Mothering Sunday has morphed over the years mostly thanks to greeting card manufacturers and florists lol. Just kidding , but obviously it has become commercialised over time .
I don't care . Moms and children will be getting together today all over the world and sharing quality time .
