My wife and I just had a wonderful experience today.

My wife was looking through some old diary`s that we have lying around and found a ph.# of an old friend (JW) that we knew over 15 years ago .We were always curious as to what has happened to her as she was a dear friend for many years when we were in the "truth"

So she rings the number (,do you still have the same # that you had 15 yrs ago ?) and this friend was a bit of a "gypsy" type so she wasn`t expecting much when she rang.

To cut a long story short we all had a good conversation we had been trying to find out about her all these years with no success and she was also trying to find out about us all these years with no success ,we had moved interstate.

Nothing was said about religion though I suspect she is still associated with the Borg. however with efforts she has made to find us through JW`s she must be fully aware that I DA`d and she had no problem talking and chewing the fat with me.

She was always a bit of a rebel as far as Elders and their rules were concerned.

Both my wife and I are very happy that this dialogue took place today and look forward to cementing this relationship again.

Apparently she is not concerned I DA`d myself and i am not going to shove my atheistic beliefs down her throat .

I will keep you posted to how this pans out over the next few months or so.

Finding a person who is independent in the borg is a surprise. I wish you the best in regaining the friendship Smiddy3.

My wife and I just had a wonderful experience today.

First thing that came to mind was some impure thought.

If she was a little loose when it came to the strict rules of the JWs, it makes sense that she misses you and wants to reconnect. That is wonderful. She's a much better person that he rest of the congregation.

We bumped into a couple of people from our old hall last week. They both hugged us and asked how we were doing. I guess some don't really care. JW's are a mixed bag of "nuts." lol

I think a lot of JW's got to the KH like they would go to their local bar. It's a place to hang out and chit chat with "friends." I truly believe that most of our family attend just for the social aspect. Nothing more.

The social aspect is definitely the most powerful ingredient in being a JW. You reach a point....."where we are what other people say we are. We know ourselves chiefly by hearsay."

just an update on this post.

my wife has had a couple of phone calls with our friend in question since the initial contact and she has informed her that she no longer pioneers or even attends so many meetings nowadays as she put it :

"you don`t get any encouragement their anymore "

One thing she said also that I will have to find out a bit more about as time goes on is this.

XXXX One of her sons (she has two ) hasn`t spoken to her in 10 years and i`m not sure whether he is still a JW or not ,though I think he is because the girl he married and her family are (or were ) well into it .

Remember we have been out for over 25 years

So I will tread carefully getting the info about that situation.

In our few discussions either over the phone or pc she has not tried to engage in any religious discussion and neither have we.

She just seems very happy to have made contact with us again after so many years and my wife and I feel the same way.

Will keep you posted on how things pan out.

An update : We have had a couple of calls since I last posted and surprising to me was that she never mentioned the memorial coming up ,nor has she mentioned anything about it afterwards.

With today`s call I thought hello here we go .She asked what I thought about what was going on in Syria.?

My answer was : Nothing new to see here rival nations have been at loggerheads since Adam was a boy ,same ole same ole ,it doesn`t mean anything .She just laughed

And that was that ,I then handed the phone over to my wife who had a long conversation afterward but nothing was said regarding religion.

I have to hold my tongue because my wife says let her be ,she`s happy don`t cause waves ,she is a friend from our past and she doesn`t shun us.

So I bite my tongue and keep my mouth shut.

Thanks for the update, smiddy. That's right, some just don't care and are happy to be reunited. Interesting how we have so many other things to discuss. I never would have believed life w/o religion would be possible, yet here we are in our new lives!

Best wishes to you and mrs. smiddy.
