Souls on Ice

You may have seen the story of the couple who just gave birth to twins who developed from embryos frozen for 30 years. I'm delighted for the parents and hope the twins grow to be healthy. It does pose some questions for those who insist embryos are in fact humans with souls.

I know we do not agree about this topic and often the discussion gets heated. Lets try to act respectfully and ask, "Does this story modify your thoughts about when an embryo can be called a person or not?"

    Excellent question, Pete.

The high court recently struck down a request from two parents to have their dying sons sperm frozen. The healthy 22 year old collapsed on the football field and was rushed to intensive care following a massive stroke.

The judge said it wasn't in the patient's best interest, despite their claim he had previously expressed a wish to become a father. He has since died.

His girlfriend had said she would like to have his child one day. That would have meant the embryo similarly would have been kept 'on ice', presumably until she felt old enough and ready to have a child. But what if she'd met someone else....and changed her mind? What would become of the 'babies'?(she's 20 so it's highly likely she'll marry in the future). Anyway the question is moot now, but it's an interesting thought and relevent to the OP, no??

So would the soul be created in the embryo at the meeting of the sperm and egg ,or when the embryo starts multiplying ,or when the eventual feotus breaths it's first breath ?

Or perhaps the soul is the fertilized egg and has no spirit so therefore could be considered not a human life?

Which leads to what if someone is dying passes and then goes through a cryogenic process, does the spirit get locked in and frozen in time if the process is done 13 seconds (for example) after the last breath?

What if the process was late by 4 seconds and the spirit leaves to go to god ,does it crave to go back to the body later?

Not really. We can theorise that the 'soul' is also frozen in time.

That idea does raise some questions, doesn't it?
