Sorry if this has been mentioned already.

Kind of misleading headline. It's the NWT version they want to label as extremist not the bible itself.

For those that don't want to go to that obnoxious website, here is the text...

Russia Moves to Declare the Bible “Extremist”

On July 28, 2017, the Vyborg City Court will resume hearing the case to declare “extremist” the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, published by Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Russian language. The case had been adjourned since April 2016 after the judge ruled in favor of the Leningrad-Finlyandskiy Transport Prosecutor’s claim to appoint an “expert study” to declare the New World Translation to be “extremist.”

After numerous delays, the study was completed and was submitted to the court on June 22, 2017. As the Witnesses expected, the study supported declaring this Bible to be an “extremist” publication. The study claims that the New World Translation is “not a Bible.” However, this is an attempt to circumvent the Law on Counteracting Extremist Activity, which prohibits declaring sacred texts, such as the Bible, to be extremist. Additionally, the “expert study” bases its conclusion on theological grounds. Its authors object to the New World Translation’s rendering of the Tetragrammaton * as “Jehovah” and falsely claim that the text was altered to fit the Witnesses’ doctrine.

The name “Jehovah” was invented by a Catholic Dominican monk, Raymundus Martini, in 1270.

So, inserting it into the Old (Hebrew) Testament in the New World Translation is one thing, but I think what people would really take exception to is the fact that the New World Translation has arbitrarily inserted it into the New (Greek) Testament 237 times! Obviously no one alive in the first century would possibly have heard about this new name “Jehovah,” a Catholic invention, which is really a Latin transliteration.

Furthermore, the monotonous duplication of the footnote for every occurrence of pronouns such as “he,” “him,” “them,” and “they” stating that it supposedly means “his” soul, “their” souls, etc. It looks quite cultic the way they hammer that point in such ridiculous repetition.

    That's kind of silly.

It's not the best translation, but it's far from the worst.

I think it's just an effort to twist the knife further into the back of the JW org.

The Bible and the Quran both are extremist holy texts, ALL translations.

Some scholars have claimed the Quran is nothing more than Biblical plagarism.

Wait, wts is claiming the reason the Russians want to declare it an extremist publication is because of the pronunciation of god's name and not because of the violence, hate, rape, misogyny, racism, homophobia, emotional abuse, urging extreme lifestyles and anti-government content?

So now wts is a source of faux news.

What I see from major news media is Russia doesn't like them because they don't vote, support Putin, attend government rallies, etc., and Putin is known for labeling people 'extremist' if they don't support him.

I suppose their publication of this fake news on their website will seal the deal.
