A topic discussed many times I'm sure. My brother a current JW saw this once and went to the elders in the hall. They too were a little surprised by really examining that scripture. Some had never read it properly before. My brother spoke to someone who gave the excuse that two nails could have been used. Fair enough, but I have yet to see it in any JW literature and in their artwork. My book of bible stories, no. Jeus -The way, the truth, the life on jw.org. I see paintings of him on the stake with a nail through the wrist. But not the hands and certainly not two nails as is mentioned in John.
John 20:25 nails, JW artwork.

Berean Literal Bible
So the other disciples were saying to him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the mark of the nails, and put my finger into the mark of the nails, and put my hands into His side, I will never believe."
New American Standard Bible
So the other disciples were saying to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."
King James Bible
The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.Edit: Let's not forget Psalms because this is supposed to be prophetic, right? Right?
Psalm 22:16

More importantly, how come Christ's chest is hairless, whilst the two thieves' sport some hair?

Of course they don't.

My favorite JW Jesus is this one:
I have shown this one to nonJW people with a lot of comments about the artwork. Heh...it actually hangs on my wall as part of an art piece I did.
It has been a consensus, among my artist friends and others, that the WT Jesus figure is a homoerotic depiction.
"He is so pretty."

When I was in, I really didn't care whether Jesus had been crucified or not. Regardless of the method, why would I bring in the equipment that killed my savior into my worship? He died for my sins, that's all that mattered to me.
As for the one or two nails, I admit, when I first read that chapter, it did make me wonder why the society had always painted ONE nail. Still, I brushed it off as a trivial detail with no real meaning or impact as I frankly didn't care if it was a cross or a stake, I simply ignored it for several years.
Then, a few years ago, I realized that the Watchtower actually cared about this teaching as they would disfellowship anyone questioning it. You cannot call such a teaching trivial if you are willing to act so severely against someone.
