We often have debates on this site about what was written in the Bible and why. There are also debates about which Bible is better . Then there's the debate about if the Quran is really the better book or more accurate. But I think what people are missing is why a book or even any writings?

Through mankinds history only a very small percentage of humans could ever read. In the first century when Jesus was supposedly alive less then 1% of the population could read. So with that being said why would a god put his ideas and his expectations in a book? If where to be free to worship not slaves of men like a part of the Bible says then again why put it down in writing.

By putting gods words in writing does it not allow for men who can read to monipulate those that can not? So again why would god put his thoughts and wishes in a book?

JWs would say the bible is mainly for people living in the "last days" and people in ancient times had miracles, eyewitness testimony, and texts where read at the synagogues etc. The light keeps getting brighter blah, blah, blah. LOL

For years, in fact, since I started my fade way back when, the very first thing that I questioned was the entire concept of the bible. As a JW I never understood why a god that is so capable of doing so many spectacular things would do that at the time when mankind was the most naive about the world around it.

Not only I used to question why writing a bible, but also why then and not now? And why the way the bible god used to communicate doesn't do it the same way today? Any tweet today is way more effective than any bible verse. Then that book was written in languages that were extremely limited, based on the rather naive interpretations of the world that humans had back then, and then, like that's not enough, it gets written in the form of visions, parables, symbolisms, dreams and prophecies.

The entire concept of the bible makes absolutely no sense, especially if it's true that it contains a message intended to save the most people possible. The whole thing is just ludicrous.

The BIG question for me is why did it take more than 2000 years for Jehovah to think of having a written record made when he chose Moses to compile the first five books of the Bible.?

Lots of things can get screwed up with 2000 years of oral stories being repeated.

I think the answer to your question lies inside the question itself:

"...less than 1% of the population"

That 'less than 1%' is the elite ruling class. They control the word, the voice and the rules that the voice declares. The written word survives beyond each generation and as such, contains the power of time.

There is a reason that John 1:1 says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

The Word, the written down rules of the powerful elite class, was given divine power over the masses - that multitude of people who could not read.

The Word became God. The Word was the power of the elite.

It must be because god is a comedian and enjoys humans arguing over a jumbled book. He must be laughing at us...

I look at it differently than you, OP. I think, if there was a supernatural being that didn't plan to speak to us in modern times, and was giving us free will, he/she/it would have been way more detailed and clear in the writings. That way there'd be no question what was desired of us.

But this is all hypothetical because there has never been any evidence of a supernatural being existing.
