  The virtual reality production, Disfellowshipped, is attempt to push forward the possibilities of immersive storytelling. To tell a narrative, character-rich, document-rich, investigative story in VR.

  Disfellowshipped revolves around Debbie McDaniel, an ex-Jehovah’s Witness in McAlester, Oklahoma. Debbie says she was sexually abused by the top elder in her congregation for five years, starting when she was 8 years old. In the aftermath, she lost her family, her friends and her faith.

  The result is an experience we hope helps open up the possibilities of VR storytelling and gives our audience a more powerful understanding of a tragic issue that affects thousands of people around the world.

  In my opinion, this outstanding technology sure makes the presentation of Debbie's awful story remarkable and memorable. Watchtower officials have to be concerned that the first use of VR by C.I.R. (Reveal) was to tell about JWs and how they hide child sexual abuse through their hideous "religious" policies .

  It's great technology. We have one of those VR headsets, but I find it too intense and in your face.
