Who else can fully understand us?
Anyone who sets their mind to. It's not that difficult to understand. Someone just has to want to.
IMHO it's not that unique at all. Trauma and hardship create the same things in people regardless of their origin. Don't get me wrong by saying this- I mean no disrespect to your experience. I think that if one wants to heal from something - finding common ground with others outside of the JW experience is the key. It seems from what I've read and heard in talking to ex-jw's that there is a common thread perpetuated by the JW religion that JW's are "unique". It's part of the means of separating them from the rest of the world thus controlling them more easily.
So, IMO, to continue outside of it saying that this new group "ex-jw's" is so unique holds the danger of simply creating another "group" to belong to where others simply don't get it. People do get it. People who have never been JW's may not have had the exact experiences or have lived with the same controlling factors or maybe they weren't deprived of certain things in their lives in the same way. But that doesn't mean that they cannot understand how it might have affected you all. If they want to understand- they will. You just have to allow them to.

I agree with XW, I have spoken to many who have been in abusive relationships and couldnt simply get out of it, there story and feelings are very much like ours who have been JWs, the doctrine maybe unique but the feelings and snare is the same.

Yes, it's okay... honestly, though, it's not so important to me at all. I believe it is important to those who were sexually abused, and hurt.....
Anyone who goes through hardship loves to exchange stories... I belong to a few depression forums and find that I bond with them a wee bit better, just b/c I know all too well the suffering that goes on with that disease. It's the same here, really.
Make sense? I hope so...

Damn right I'm proud of this forum, just wish it was around 15 years ago, when I was in a no win situation.
