Hi everyone, I want to let you know that sometimes I feel ashamed of what I fell for regarding the JW’s. It’s so clear now sometimes I actually feel embarrassed. When I listen to recordings of assembly’s - you know when they really get off on one, you can’t help but see and feel the underlying cult propagated information that’s being “taught”. The reason why I am feeling this more than usual is because I am writing an electronic track for my final CD at college to get me into Uni and one of the tracks has assembly quotes about 1975 amongst other things and it takes a hell of a lot of replaying and editing to get things sounding “proper”.

Could anyone tell me, did you feel like this? Where does it lead, if you know what I mean?

I felt that way just a few daze ago.... no kidding. I wasn't even raised in it. I really fell for it. I dunno about you, but that makes me feel even more ashamed....

Were you raised in it, or duped?

Shamus, I was raised in it but It's just starting to seem very embarassing to me sometimes. Never mind eh!

Some times it just bowls me over how much the WTS has to answer for in front of God, if he exists.

be wise, and shamus...it's only been in the last few months that I've realized that there is no shame in being what I was. I acted in accord with my best understanding of life, and with the best of intentions toward my fellow human beings. That I was duped by others (who themselves were mostly dupes), is no condemnation of me.

    be wise,

I know what you mean. A few weeks ago, I was explaining to a friend the beliefs of JWs. After a short while, I felt so embarrased that I used to believe the teachings of this peculiar religion. I was so ashamed that I don't think I will be admitting to anyone any time soon that I used to be a JW.

Hi Marianne , sometimes this is the way I feel about my music. I feel embarrassed because I know eventually people are gonna hear it who haven't got a clue about where it is coming from, but now I just think f#+k it, it was a part of my life and I'm moving on.

I think it’s admirable that you talked to someone openly about it, even though you may have felt uncomfortable after because of his or her reaction to it, it makes it even clearer to you, which is only a good thing really!

I think it is really important to remember that the JWs use some pretty sophisticated mind control techniques to get people to fall for it.

They present a seemingly logical explanation for everything. And they prey on people who don't know a lot about religion, the Bible or have a strong faith..

The use "nice, friendly" people to to get past initial protests.

They use love-bombing once they get you to a meeting.

They don't give you all the information at once or up-front. It is slowly fed to you, one piece at a time to make it more palatable.

There is a distinct progressive nature to the indoctrination process and they are really good at it.

Many thousands of people have bought into this subtle but powerful indoctrination.

Don't feel bad for getting caught

Feel good about finally see it for what it is and getting out

Yep I feel the same way be wise. Like a big silly doodoo head!

What about the Noahs ark story, I TOTALLY believed it. Now I think about all the bugs and insects and spiders etc. That Ark would have been literally crawling with them plus all the species of birds, let alone the lizards and snakes and mammals and marsupials etc etc. Rediculous!

I even asked a witness about this when I was still in and they said,"oh No, the animals they took had the genes for every other animal and after they came out of the ark the new species developed." HELLO????? Isn't that evolution? and so they evolved within a few hundred years of coming off the Ark! Yeah right. OMG I cant believed I swallowed that tripe!

Lady Lee, I agree (yeah, it rhymes).

    Well said.

Now, to a non-jw, yeah, it can be embarrasing explaining what you may have believed. To someone who posts here (or at similar sites) and or is inactive, it's totally understandable.

I'm sometimes ashamed of it, but I see people falling for stuff that's even dumber. For example, last night I was up late flipping around on the TV and on comes Peter Popoff. He's a tv evangelist who claims to have healing powers. People come on his show and he yells something about God's holy spirit, then smacks the person in the forehead knocking the person onto their back and claims to have healed them. And the people get up sweating and crying and claim to be healed. I don't know how those people make themselves believe that. But I suppose the mind is a powerful thing when you want to believe something.
