When you were in the congregation, did you find yourself typically getting jealous over people or position? I knew many brothers and sisters that were always complaining about the recognition others in the congregation got. If someone expressed a heartfelt thought or related a personal experience, the standard expression was, "Oh, I can't believe this person! I did better than that and I'm not bragging about it." Or younger as well as older men have often lamented over not being picked for an assignment or a position. I think everyone displays jealousy at different times, especially because they are insecure. How do you feel about this?

Am I a jealous person? Forget the congregation, lets look at real life. There is good jealousy and bad jealousy. If you don't want your wife to talk to anybody because your scared of losing her, well that's bad jealousy.
Isn't God a jealous God in the bible? That's the good jealousy I guess...
Me, I'm not jealous about material stuff others have and I don't, but on the human side, I am a bit jealous if I don't get what I think I deserve.

Brummie, in the congregation that I grew up in, it seemed that everyone tattled on another just so they could get ahead. Brothers were always having to be consoled because they felt passed up for a "privilege". Comments would be made concerning certain ones jewelry, cars or homes, cattily. I saw a lot of rivalry between individuals and congregations.

I tend to agree with minimus, that there were many who complained and were jealous of others in the hall.
Remember, we were taught to want nothing, don't educate oneself. So when these people would see others with material possesions, or rising in the ranks of the hall, they would be jealous because they did not have the same things, and likely would never be in a position to get them.
