After reading all your interesting thoughts on my other posting regarding FW, I would be fascinated to learn what you all regard to be among his worst 'crimes'. Would it be the 'refinements' on blood, a debate which goes on to the present, his views on transplants, or would you debate the true scholorship of his greek translations?

What scholarship in his Greek translations? The NWT is an out and out fraud.

Here's how I see it (the early years, 1922-1938):
"Fred, ya know we've had Brooklyn-appointed Service Directors in the companies for years now, but those pesky 'character-developers' just don't wanna get on board with my Advertise, Advertise, Advertise campaign. What are we gonna do?"
"Let me think on it, Joe."
Viola! Suddenly these "character-developers" are classified as the "old" Elijah work, now to be replaced with the Elisha work (translate "human doings, not human beings"). Damn those slackers, anyway.
"Fred, that whole bunch of Bible Students that left us in the late teens and twenties? They're really getting to be a thorn in my side, going around and saying all kinds of bad things about me."
"Let me think on it, Joe."
Viola! Suddenly the "man of sin," the "son of lawlessness" is no longer 'false religion,' but is identified with the evil slave, 'those that went out from us, who were not of our sort.' Damn those bastards, anyway.
"Fred, you dun a good job on those characters and the other jerks, but I'm still having a problem with them elective elders."
"Let me think on it, Joe."
Viola! Suddenly the election of elders, which had been a hallmark of the Bible Students for 60 years, is out the window. Damn those publicity-seeking elders, anyway.
"Fred, those non-elective elders are still not toeing the line."
"Let me think on it, Joe."
Viola! Suddenly there are no elders at all! Elder only means "spiritually mature," and any 'leading' of the companies should be done by Brooklyn-appointed lackeys. The Service Director becomes the new Congregation Servant. Damn those elders, anyway.

Please pardon the language; but if you're familiar with the tone and rhetoric of Rutherford's works, you know that my language doesn't even come close to the venom he spewed. And right behind him, "scholar to the challenge," was FF.
If anyone wants references and timelines, I'll be glad to provide. Except for the literary license, everything I said above is true.
The "middle years" start in 1944, when the election of WTS Directors (synonymous with the GB) was disengaged from the "vote-for-dollars-donated" program, and turned over to a hand-selected group of <500 "loyal and faithful Christians."
With FF's aid, Rutherford got his stranglehold on the congregations, and with FF's aid Knorr got his stranglehold on the publishers.

Hi Craig,
Thanks for distilling the recent research you've been doing on the Rutherford era. It's quite a damning indictment.
With FF's aid, Rutherford got his stranglehold on the congregations, and with FF's aid Knorr got his stranglehold on the publishers.
Would you care to elaborate further on the stranglehold on publishers ?
Regards,
Earnest

His crimes? I'd have to say the biggest one is that he "stayed alive till '75".

F.W. Franz' greatest crime is the self-delusion that he thought he could know the mind of God by searching through the scriptures for clues.
He should have instead prayed for God's direction, something which obviously he did not have because God's does not direct us to do stupid or evil things.

Earnest, to start with I'm thinking of the disfellowshipping practices and the way they were tightened up in the early 50s, starting a series of rules and regulations that impacted the individual JW (e.g. blood transfusions). However, I haven't gone far enough with my project to make as clear a cause-and-effect case with Knorr as with Rutherford,
petespal, LOL...yeah, if I'd used my dictionary I'd have seen that it spelled voila.
