In yesterday's newspaper, the Columbus Dispatch, there was a front page story about death rates of young men in the area. Young men are being murdered, by each other, at an alarming rate.
One of the things I noticed in the article (posted below with links) was that the young men felt that they were not being *respected* by someone else. Rather than go beat the offender up, they get a gun and shoot the offender. This thread is not about crime but about *respect* and *disrespect* The article made me realize how an innocent comment can get one killed....on the streets on in cyber-space.
I noticed that the word *disrespect* has been thrown around here on a few threads here. People get offended by something someone else typed and a third poster chimes in that the first poster was *disrespected*. The third poster expects the offender to apologize to the disrespected poster.
Before you know it a nasty cyber fight has developed over who has been more offended or *disrespected* by someone else's language or choice of words.
I just don't get it. Is this a guy thing? Is this a younger-guy thing? Is this a JW thing?
Who do you respect on this board and why? When have you felt disrespected? Why do you let an invisible poster, whom you never met face to face, get to you?
I am not looking for answers; just something to think about. There are way too many toes being stepped on and no one seems to know why.
