Hi Big Jim: I have posted on this several times on H20. The large sums of money the WTS receives from contributions, literature reimbursement, investment holdings, estate and trust gifts, etc. is not going to any single individual or small group for personal use. The WTS does expend a lot of money to operate. But, the money and assets they have represent a lot of power. Large amounts of money cannot help but empower those who have ultimate authority and direction over its use.
The money allows the WTS to engage in a large scale marketing program through all their unpaid volunteers, from their headquarters down to individual publishers. The media power it buys within the scope of their control allows them to function in a way that gives them a considerable amount of authority over the congregations and individuals.
To some extent the people at the top of the organization do enjoy some greater privileges that money can buy, such as, travel, better apartments, security, etc. But, the power is the greatest prize of all. With such power they can hire the best legal help to get things they want, or to stay out of serious trouble.
Similarly, in large corporations, the Board of Directors may not be getting paid all that much, but the prestiege, power, recognition, and being in the 'game' as it were, is bought with corporate wealth.
Hope that helps some. - Amazing
