This topic has been stolen by me from another site. It's too good not to post though!

It's about Stonehenge's origins. I'm intrigued because I've visited the place several times. Here we go:

'This central area is empty because it represents the opening to the world, the birth canal,' says Perks. Stonehenge was therefore constructed to honour the Earth Mother for 'giving both life and livelihood'.

I will now never be able to visit stonehedge without a large, goofy smile on my face.

I can just see my wife poking me in the back if I mention the vagina similarities.

"Hey hon, do you know what I read about this?"

    "Shut up!" *poke, poke*

    LOL

but..............there have several articles in the news recently about graves in the area and a man they connected to Switzerland, as a stone crafter I think.

There are hundreds of stone circles though................are they all a vagina?

Perks's theory, although interesting, was essentially untestable

    Agreed

if Stonehenge was built so that it looked like a female sexual organ when viewed from above, how were people supposed to see that? As far as we have been able to tell, they didn't have hot-air balloons in prehistoric times.'

Didn't need them. Guys back then weren't that dumb that they wouldn't have the ability to see the resemblence if they had been encouraged to.

Stonehenge was not built in one single act of construction, but was put together over a period of more than 1,500 years in a series of successive modifications and improvements. Nor was it built by the druids, the people most often associated with the site. In fact, many more ancient tribes and societies - individuals attempting to make their impact on the landscape of England - were responsible.

So what? All those tribes probably had shamans. Also, people from all those tribes were still having sex.

'By those standards, this latest idea seems to say something quite odd about the twentyfirst century.'

Not really, it says they are having sex, which is true, and that there are a lot of amateur gynecologists.

I guess when you get to be 57 years of age, everything looks like a vagina.

If that's a vagina then I guess next they will be telling us the Washington Monument is phallic.

How amazing .... is it a calculator? Opening to the nether world? Or a vagina? now that's the kind of multiple choice question I like!

Of course this "new" idea fits in well with many ancient (prehistoric) european studies. The so called shaman's were actually just used for their procreative abilities. The priestess(witches) made sure everyone had the chance to create life during the season. Of course the Christians changed all that
