Did you ever want to be in a different book study, one maybe closer to your home or where you had close friends?

I knew people who had a book study across the street, and they were sent across the city about 8 miles away instead. So often I saw how people could have been sent to closer places.

Did you ever try to change group? Did you have any success?

Also, when I joined, every 6 months they shuffled people around in different book studies saying it was good to get to know different people. A few years later they never changed anymore. People stead in the same book study with the same people for many years.

    Try to understand?

More so as a kid, I wanted to go where my friends were.

As an adult, when I did go, I usually enjoyed the people for the most part. But if I didn't, then I simply did not attend.

One of many reasons I have always been considered spiritually weak.

Would you have rather been in a different book study?

Sure, a few times. Just two examples:

I remember one "annointed" bookstudy conductor who was an unapolegetic Jew-hater. Couldn't stand listening to his racist nonsense any longer.

Another conductor I remember would interrupt the book study and dash to the window to make sure his fancy car wasn't being molested.

Poor souls who just didn't have a clue, may they rest in peace.

Mostly I didn't care. I blindly followed all the society's direction and that included bookstudy assignments. I felt that's what a good JW would do. But there was one that I wished that we had better conductor. He wasn't a bad guy, but for one thing he was elderly and his eyesight was going out so he had the large edition of the book and a magnifying glass and he would still have a hard time reading out the question after his assistant had read the paragraph. Sometimes his assistant would have to correct his reading of the question. Another thing was some of his off the cuff remarks. Nothing really too bad, but sometimes he'd get to talking and when he finished we'd be somewhere else in corn fields or on his past jobs.

Many conductors would ask their own follow up questions and many asked questions with one word answers that no one knew but the conductor, but this particular guy seemed to do it more than ever. He asked some questions by reading a sentence from the paragraph and leaving out a word, "And Jehovah God sends out his holy ____?" Of course the paragraph says spirit at the end of that exact sentence. But sometimes he'd make up questions with one word fill in the blank answers. So a right hearted person is _______? Then we'd start the guessing game (Can anybody read Brother M's mind and tell us what word he is thinking of?). Righteous? Well yes but that's not what I'm looking for. Good?...well yes but that's not what I"m looking for. Loving?.....and on and on. So that one was kind of annoying at times (amusing at other times), but in my blind following of the society's rules, I didn't let it bother me much.

I was in a bookstudy with the typical arsehole "elders son" who was a total jerkoff. I hated that one.. and got moved out.

The only thing that I can think of back in those daze now is WOW! I'm free! Thank god!

I wish. I used to attend some very interesting BSG. Lots of young people with 'interesting' comments. The conductor was a moderate, and many times, we would stay after the one-hour meeting to have 'discussions'.It was like one happy family. The BSG had meetings less that 50 m from where I lived. That was before I was dunked. Fast forward to several several months. I get baptized, and then someone said something like I had to attend some book study about 40 minutes away. Icouldn't understand it! Attended for a while, then almost stopped. Then the elders would come with stuff about doing it right and all that... not long after, good elder brother with cute BSG moved, or sth happened, and the BSG was divided... I'm thinking about it now and wondering how 'funny' it is. No sense of logictics or anything, no respect for the individual needs...

Yes. Preferably one studying the works of Hakim Bey or Terence McKenna. GentlyFeral
