This is a topic in the new Awake. Their thinking is that some of them are not upbuilding, crude, pornographic, filthy etc. The implication is of course that since some of it is "bad", stay away from all of it. Based on that logic, why not the following articles?

    Should you read the Bible?

    Should you read?

    Should you wear clothes?

    Should you talk to people?

    Should you eat?

    Should you have neighbors?

    Should you think?

    Any more? chappy

We ARE of course talking about a group of people that believe SMURFS will get you, and neckties that are bought in thrift stores can choke you because they are "demonized". so yeah:

Young People Ask: Should I watch Saturday morning cartoons?

LOL at the smurf comments.... when I heard that one out in service, I burst out laughing and said it was the biggest bunch of garbage I ever heard.... what idiots.

I still stand behind the one...

Young People Ask.... How Do I clean my genitals without causing arousal? Use Bleach!

Young People Ask... How can I cope being in a religion full of mis-fits?

Young People Ask.... How can I make a living making minimum wage and still pioneer?

Young People Ask... Friends... why they shun you....

I can never understand this American JW obsession about the Smurfs.

Here in Britain none of us thought anything about them. Nothing was ever mentioned by other brothers/sisters. In fact I think most of us watched the on TV with our children.

As usual they control their members like children who have not got a brain to reason with.

If the society wasn't intent on brainwashing people, their religion wouldn't be full of weak minded followers who are lost without someone telling them what to do in every situation!

Gordy, I cant find it where I originally posted it... but yes... We were given strict warnings back in the late 70's I think?? They would tell stories of little toy blue people trying to strangle infants. The whole thing was based on the idea that smurfs were "imps" or magikal creatures. Promptly after that talk, all of our collections of "fast food" toy smurfs were confiscated.

Needless to say it devastated me. .... blue people... who'd have thunk it?

Interesting that an Awake on that topic should be coming out when I am just about to get cable for the first time in my life. My wife, who is still a JW, watched music videos quite a bit when she was growing up, as her family had cable. Even though she shows no sign of leaving the JW, this is one of the admonitions I think she will not pay much attention to. She'll watch her music videos including the rap ones that she likes despite what this Awake says. There are some JW rules she doesn't follow so closely. But I think I might have a little fun with her about this Awake.

Should you associate with Jehovah's Witnesses?I mean, if some are "bad association", you should not associate with any of them because that is the only way you can really be protected from those who are "bad association."
