The State of Rhode Island crosses sovereign Indian territory to close down a smoke shop. I am especially ashamed of Rhode Island given it history with Roger Williams, its founder, a strong advocate of Indian rights against the wishes if the British Crown. This is a good time for President Bush to send in the Federal army and strip Rhode Island of its statehood, arrest the police storm troopers and the State Governor for violation of Indian rights and sovereign territory. Here is the story as it appeared on FoxNews:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Narragansett Indian Tribe ( search ) sued the state Tuesday, claiming their rights were violated during a tumultuous state police raid on the tribe's new tax-free tobacco shop. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,91968,00.html
While I love and care for the USA and its States ... I am very shocked and embarassed at the conduct of Rhode Island and its Governor. You can email the State of Rhode Island and voice your opinion at: http://www.info.state.ri.us/
Governor Donald L. Carcieri http://www.governor.ri.gov/
Lieutenant Governor Charles J. FogartySecretary of State Matthew A. Brown
The Governor also emphasized that under federal law, the Rhode Island State Police had every right and authority to enter the premises. "The Narragansett Indians have no immunity from state law, and they had no right to resist the properly-drawn search warrant,"he said.
No, Mr. Governor, Indian tribes, and specifically the Narragansett Tribe was granted sovereignty by the USA Federal Government by treaty. Therefore, when your Storm-Trooper jack-booted thugs for cops broke through the Tribal Police, they violated this treaty. You sir, and your state troopers are criminals. You are not fit to be a Governor, and they are not fit to wear their uniforms. This is a major disgrace.
Yes, the Governor is upset at the Indians ... but he is dead wrong, wrong, wrong ... and he needs to be arrested and treated as a criminal. These Indians have been screwed with enough, and I hope they sue the hell out of Rhode Island and win big time.
