Do any of you have the Watchtower 2001 CD-Rom? You may notice that when you install for the first time, this is what appears in the pop-up window....

    Dear Brothers:

We are happy to provide for Jehovah's Witnesses a new version of Watchtower Library. Please read the following six points about proper use of Watchtower Library and answers to questions that you may have. The License Agreement, which will be presented later during the actual installation, sets out in legal language a license covering copyright protection. If you accept the license and thus will use this electronic tool in your Bible research, indicate your agreement after reading it.

    YOUR USE OF WATCHTOWER LIBRARY

    1. What constitutes proper use?

Watchtower Library has been designed for your personal use. Hence, you may copy, print, or excerpt from the data for your personal use. But you may not distribute the program or large sections of the data to others who do not own Watchtower Library on CD-ROM. Nor may you copy, print, or excerpt from the copyrighted data to prepare and distribute books. Please do not put the program or data on the Internet or any public network.

    2. Who may have a copy of Watchtower Library?

Watchtower Library is a research tool for Jehovah's Witnesses, not for the public or for institutions such as schools or libraries.

so, why is 'spiritual food at the proper time' not available to universities, librarys and colleges? Just think of all the potential sheep like people who work in these institutions.

I think we know the answer....

    truthseeker,

I agree, they have really clamped down on who gets their publications. If worldly people like myself read the magazines or books without the prior indoctrination of a bible study, we can tell how wacko they really are. The Watchtower's private face and public face are so different.

I correspond with a fair number of Non-JW people who are involved romantically with JWs. Most are completely baffled by aspects of their loved one's behavior or situation. So much can be explained by showing them what has been written by the Watchtower or Awakes. I don't have a CD or access to those publications unless I find them by accident. The biggest help has been sending people scanned pages from the "Young People Ask" or "Family Happiness" book. I was able to obtain those books from a kind friend with a JW relative. They have been invaluble.

It would be so much easier if those books were available in some format on the internet. Can anyone do that?

It is totally inconsistent that they would restrict access to their publications in any way. As Witnesses, we were always told to distribute as much literature as possible. It is lifesaving information, and should be given the utmost publicity.

So, why do they put any restrictions on it? If this is "God's lifesaving message", it should be freely available to all. The more copying, the better.

Assemblies also used to be "Free" and "Public Welcome!" I guess this has changed slowly over the years. I'd be interested in their explanation. How do they look for their increases when they're so closed?

    Runningman,

If they are being consistant with their policy of spreading the "truth", all of their publications should be available on line, right? lol Then the whole world can see exactly what they really believe, and worldly people can see exactly how much JWs are taught to love us.

Cults generally have two sets of "truth". The real stuff for insiders, and the sanitized version for outsiders. Ask a JW if they believe that they are the only ones who will be saved. They will say "no". The reason is that they don't want to reveal the true nature of their goof-ball beliefs until after you are hooked.

The ability to quickly copy and distribute information is becoming their downfall. They are no longer able to keep their insider doctrines quiet long enough to hook people.

"When life saving infomation re: dangerous wt teachings and lethal policies....is withheld from the courts...such as FLOCK BOOK and counter-watchtower articles and news...for no apparent good reason"!!!!

Why aren't 'they' innoculating the system? How many in Vicki's town own a flock book? What is so hard about getting this book to the courts???

Good question!! But no solid answer yet. Oh yea, we don't want to ruffle any authorities feathers. So let's just keep all watchtower policies in the Dark, shall we? Or better yet!!! Just keep all this "schtuff" on the net...where no judge will be sure to EVER WITNESS its contents. Yea, that will work!!! Kepp em' guessing as to why they are trying the / a case to begin with...yea, that'ss it...keep them in The Dark!!!

Is the wt-cd not publicly available because of how easy it is to edit electronic documents? Somebody could change the wording in an article to totally change its meaning (Like inserting an 'a' into John 1:1) without others being able to tell it had been done as they would be able to do on a hard copy.
