How's it workin' for ya?
I'm going to stretch my neck out and say, he will not touch it, Bill O'Reilly hasn't. By the way, O'Reilly had invited Dr. Phil on his show and he declined.

I think he'd tell the shunee to use the opportunity to discover who he really is and make the best life for him/herself - the one that s/he wants - rather than wasting the next year (or 5 or 10 or 20) pining for the lost love of his family.
He'd probably say "Well, let's put it this way: what if they all - your family members and friends - died in an earthquake and you were the only survivor? Yeah, you'd grieve for your loss, and that's ok up to a point. But then you'd pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move on with your life without them."
Pining over being shunned gives JWs power over you. Moving on with your life and making your life into the one that you want - with the career/job you love and that makes you excited to be alive and do what you were meant to do - is going to give you happiness beyond what any conditional love from your family or friends is going to give you. And it takes power away from the JWs shunning.
My own family isn't as close as we were when I was an active JW. But they also know that I am happier with my life and what I am doing with my life than I ever was as a JW. It drives them NUTS that I'm not miserable without the JWs. I don't complain about them never calling or visiting and I NEVER tell them that I miss their company. I tell them that I love them. I give them big hugs when I see them. They know they are welcome to visit or call whenever they want. I visit them and call them when I want. Then I leave and go on with the life of my choosing, the one that makes me happy. It baffles them that I'm not bitter or angry about their choice to restrict their association with me. They scratch their heads and wonder why the "formula" isn't working on me and making me beg to go back.
Living well is truly the best revenge.

Interesting What if thought? .. about being on Dr. Phil.
SCULLY... Thanks for saying that, you are setting a good example for me in your attitude and how you conduct yourself with your family.

Mulan, did Dr. Phil go into any details?

I doubt the family would appear anyway.
One sniff of this and the WT would have the elders round saying what a bad idea it would be for them to go on the show etc.
Ignored One.
With all due respect, ignored_one, it does appear there is somebody, somewhere willing to go on television and air their family laundry, no matter how ill-advised. How else to explain Jerry Springer?
...I always figured, if someone I loved invited me to go on the Jerry Springer show with them, I would cut straight to the chase, cut my losses, and leave him. I would know, whatever it is, I don't really want to hear it.
He'd say "let's kick it up a notch" -- oh, wait, that's Emeril!
Seriously, though, I e-mailed Dr. Phil back in May about elder abuse among the JWs, i.e., my father's suicide, and never heard anything beyond an acknowledgement of receipt of the e-mail. My understanding is that he doesn't go near religious issues, which is probably a good thing for his popularity.
Maybe we should try Emeril . . . .
