    Hi,

I have a discrepancy. Can anyone tell me if the following quote is from the April 1, 1947 Watchtower magazine, or the July 1, 1947 magazine, p. 204?:

'to get one's name written in that book of life will depend upon one's works'

David Reed, in his book on WT errors has it down for both. One is correct, one's not. Hopefully, someone with a CD ROM or an old magazine from 1947 can verify it for me firsthand.

    Thanks. It'll really help me.

    July 1, paragraph 15

Each year only has one page 204, so that part was right.

    Garybuss,

Where did you get the quote from that said it was the July 1, 1947 issue?

"WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF LIFE"

15 Moreover, the ’‘book of life" is something still different. It symbolizes God’s unerasable records of those judged worthy of life eternal on the perfected earth of the New World of righteousness. No records will be preserved of those who are destroyed: "the memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot." (Prov. 10:7) To get one’s name written in that book of life will depend upon one’s works, whether they are in fulfillment of God’s will and approved by his Judge and King. During his thousand-year reign, those coming forth from the graves as immature children will be granted the opportunity to grow up to responsible age, and every opportunity and advantage will be put in their way by the King and Judge to "bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord" according to the books that are then opened. In fact, instruction in the Lord’s way will fill the earth and be made available for all, both young and old. Each one, according to this knowledge gained, will be made responsible for his own works. No one will be prejudged or be held accountable for the willful sin of his present parents or offspring or other relatives according to the flesh.

The April 1, 1947 issue has an article discussing having one's name "written in the book of life," but doesn't say the above.

edit to add: T Man, our posts crossed I got my quote from the Research Applications Institute reprints CD, from Randy W's site.

    Thanks Craig & Garybuss,

Unfortunately, I didn't want to hear that answer because I have the wrong date on my tract. However, I'm in good company. Ron Rhodes has April in his Reasoning with JWs book along with a preponderance of sites with the April date vs. July. Misery loves company!
