Diego Maradona apparently died yesterday, 11-25-2020, from a heart attack aged 60.

On the football pitch he was a genius, a footballer of outrageous talent.

BTW I'm English, and like many of my compatriots, I remember how disgraceful his cheating was in the quarter finals of the 1986 World Cup against England. He clearly deliberately punched the football into the net, and that goal should not have been allowed.

But the next goal he scored was pure genius. He was on another plane compared to the other 21 players on the pitch. He turned three England players inside-out and then walzed through the England defence, rounding goalkeeper Peter Shilton and cheekily putting the ball in the goal.

I agree he was a very talented or gifted player. I tend to think others were better in the sense they were also more like a captain.
Nevertheless, we all know about the first goal. Personally I also have my doubts if the second goal was made by Maradona. If you look very carefully, at 2:28 mark, it seems the defender is actually moving the ball in his own goal. Still an amazing solo, but the sliding the defender makes, move the ball in his own goal. I do not think Maradona was able to kick the ball. But I can be wrong, not good to see. Would be interesting to do it frame by frame with better quality.

Pity he had to end this way. The danger of fame and wealth when you are coming from the poor neighbourhoods. I enjoyed his games.

I take nothing away from the total brilliance of Maradona, but that second goal was aided by some piss poor defending !

@Phizzy - good point, the second goal did feature some dodgy defending.

Which is why I'm posting this new video, showing Maradona on the ball in a variety of matches for club and country.

The second goal would have been disallowed if VAR was available back then. Foul on I think it was glen hoddle .

Another so called great man who was abusive to women

The second goal would have been disallowed if VAR was available back then. Foul on I think it was glen hoddle - er, no, he didn't foul Glen Hoddle. Hoddle left his arm out in front of Maradona and Maradona just moved his arm out the way. Believe it or not, football is a contact sport.

Another so called great man who was abusive to women - I don't know about this. Obviously, abusing women is very bad. I just wanted to start a thread about Maradona's footballing talent, which was exceptional.

It was shown on match of the day someone fouled a England player before maradona got the Ball.

Just because someone has a talent does not excuse being abusive.

There are no excuses for domestic abuse .

Thanks for Posting the Video, LUHE. looking at it, a lot of modern footballers could take lessons from it.

Even when EVILLY fouled, he does not lie down clutching an offended body part, hoping to get a free kick, he gets up, runs like fury again and GETS A GOAL ! or makes a goal scoring opportunity.

Lying down rolling in " agony" waiting for a free Kick is a waste of time, from that point on, even if you win the F.K. the game is slowed right down, everyone is back in position, and a Goal is so very hard to get.

Maradona was a tough little fucker, and he showed how you do it ! Come on you guys in the Game now, learn to be a Maradona, not a Prima Donna !
