Dear Brothers:
For several years, the simplified edition of The Watchtower has been produced in French,
Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. The Governing Body has decided that only one study edition will
be translated into these languages. Therefore, the last simplified edition in French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish will be the issue of May 2017. In the future, simpler language will be used in the
study edition of The Watchtower.

Really, can they dumb these 'magazines' down any more?

Duh - I saw that coming long ago. It was stupid from the beginning especially when they DON'T want to publish anything in paper anymore.
p.s. Like the WT and Awake required a BA in english to read. What a joke.

Cost reductions again.... dumbing down the literature even further...Out of money?... hell no!...so what's the plan? Running away with the money while the faithful wake up from their long slumber?

Jeezo it sounds like they're dumbing down even more, if that's even possible.
How come they don't give a reason for cutting the foreign editions? It's almost as if they think ordinary members are not worth explaining decisions to.
I never quite understood the reason for a simplified edition. Is it an acknowledgement that current or potential witnesses is less educated? Is there a grade level that they target in this edition?
So, as per usual, if you speak English, Jehovah gives you lots more spiritual food. Up yours if you don't read English.

The reason given is that for some people, the language they attend meetings in or are studying in is not their first language, so a "simplified" version makes it easier for them to understand.
As has been stated on the 4 (so far) topics on this letter...the magazines are already written at about a 4th grade level, there's not a whole lot of "simplification" that can be done.
