A small incident happened to me today that has triggered me to say this.

How many of you have seen that JW are fairly hopeless and being anywhere on time.

An obvious one is the families that never miss a meeting and never miss arriving late with resultant fuss.

But in day to day things as well.
    • Arriving late for a paid job.
    • leaving early, ditto.
    • not turning up for a BBQ without even a phone call.
    • being in all things disorganized.

and, how many of you have seen the above become the norm in people once they become JW that were not that way before...

What when field circus runs long. When I was in, they always had a little game of seeing how close they could keep me out until it was time to work, so I would always arrive a few minutes late. Without those parasites, I am almost never late for work--not before, not since. (Aside from those times when random bad luck forces me to run late.)

And not by a few minutes, either. I would tell them that I needed to be in by a specific time, that would leave me plenty of time to get to work in time. But they would keep me out for one call after another. Or, they would deliberately leave late from boasting sessions so I would run late for work. Always finding one thing after another to keep them from leaving, often a good 20 minutes after everyone else was gone.

But you don't dare being late for a boasting session or field circus, for any reason.

We found this to be the case as well. I never thought of it that way though. Keeping a person late in the ministry might have been a perverse way to get you to have more “time” or even get you to lose your job so that you could learn to “rely on Jehovah” more.

    This for sure.

Many years ago my father, an elder at the time, told me how in the area he lived a family with six kids would always show up fifteen minutes late to the Sunday morning meeting. They complained about how difficult it was to get up and ready and be on time at 9:30 A.M.

So out of concern for them the elders decided to move the meeting time to 10:00 A.M. And that family was very consistent in showing up at 10:15 A.M.

I can certainly believe these nervy bastards would try to tamper with the lives of younger people there!

I remember the person who I studied with having the nerve to once say: “well maybe now is a good time to get fired”. Sure, what the hell did THEY care? It wasn’t their life.

They were old and collecting a pension from THEIR younger days in the workforce like other older people there!..But, yet these hypocrites tried to push poverty on ME. Different rules for thee but not for me? But, I would not be manipulated. They couldn’t stand a young woman who made her own way in the world..There was also a ‘misery loves company’ mentality or even a jealousy there I detected. I minded my own business but certain people there resented me anyway.

I am so glad I resisted these older Witnesses and their controlling nerviness!.. They made sure I wasn’t invited anywhere, but so what? I’m Retired today.

Can't say I ever noticed that here in the UK.

Yes. There were some that were late for things but usually everyone was quite punctual.

Is it a cultural thing where you are in the world??

    Puctuality?

I wasn't so concerned about the family with 5 children coming in late. That is hard work to get that many young children going on the weekend. I was irritated with the PO who was late for everything, but he had everyone waiting on him so his time wasn't wasted. I.e., He would have a part on a circuit assembly and want to practice, so everyone shows up but him. We had dinner, then practiced the part without him and are leaving and he finally shows up literally 3 + hours late. The reason he and his family were late was that He had gone to a local college football game and it went into overtime. He had a cell phone and could have called. The problem was he would have been late if the game had not gone into overtime. He made the appointment when the kickoff was scheduled. That's what pissed me off. He did that kind of crap all the time. I have to thank him though, his selfishness helped me wake up.

They're so self important and show up 'fashionably late' except they're anything but fashion plates.

In my opinion it's a total lack of respect for others' time but only their own. I will not accept any other alibi unless it's an emergency.

When the book study was at my home one largish family always showed up late with much rustling of carrier bags. So after the study one time the group conductor asked if everyone was OK with the time set for the meeting or would like it changed. The mother of said family put her hand up and asked if it could be earlier. Look on the brother's face was priceless.

I remember one. She became my officemate, and then was assigned to be my BS conductor. She was seated beside me at work... and I never got the feeling that she was on top of things. Most of the time she was in a mad dash to work, arriving later that most of us. I saw her frequently browsing the internet (while I focused on work - because, heck, I was paid to deliver and deliver it well!) and chatting with someone... who later turned out to be the the congregation's most eligible bachelor/elder. Long story short, she quit the job months later and got married. Word has it that they're now happily living together both as inactive JWs. Cheers! 😁
