The Origin of Life

  In its brochure, “The Origin of Life”, the WTS poses: “How Did Life Begin?” (page 4)

  It states: “The answer to the question, Where do babies come from? is well-documented and uncontroversial. Life always comes from preexisting life.” (“The Origin of Life”, page 5)

  So my questions are:

  (1) Does the WTS explain what is meant by “life” or when it begins?

  (2) Does it believe that spermatozoa (human or otherwise) are alive?

  (3) Does it believe that an ovum is alive? (Is an unfertilised chicken’s egg alive?)

  ======

  I would also like to comment that the WTS does not differentiate between the “origin of life” and “evolution”, but there is a difference between the moment of conception and the subsequent development (“evolution”) resulting from a successful union.

  The most fundamental question is just that, what is life? and what do we call something just shy of it? The simplest undebatable life form currently studied is a man made mycoplasm with 500 genes or so. Nanobes and nanobacteria are currently stretching the imagination of what life is. Then we have prions that are replicating protein based entities lacking traditional genetics.

  What's important to consider is that the first self replicating entities were likely not fully biologic but more like crystalline. It is theorized by some scientists that the first truly living things that we would recognize as living were RNA based which is less complex and we've provacatively observed RNA self replicating apart from an organism.

  Arguing that a complex organism can't arrive spontaneously is stating the obvious, it doesn't occur to some that the first steps were extremely simple and not recognizable as fully living. IOW the beginning of life was itself a process not a single event.

  Doug, I suspect it is intentional to avoid defining what life is. Getting too specific is the best way to have a weak argument refuted. It becomes testable and stimulates questions about other specific cases.

  And another though that, from my point of view, discredit the publication ( and the WT / GB on Evolution ) is that

  I never heard a correct presentation of the fundamentals of Evolutionist Theory.

  They always allegate that Evolution was not true because evolution did'nt answer to the creation of life ...

  They doesn't simply know what is really Evolution Theory
