Scheduling Problems

Greetings, Orderly and Punctual Fellow Posters:

Becoming more and more forgetful, I have to write down all my daily tasks and obligations: Put out Tony's garbage can, on Sunday night; feed Rover at 3:30 p.m., on Monday; look out my studio window between eleven and one o'clock, on Thursday, to sign for a parcel, from UPS, for my neighbor.

I write out all my daily jobs and appointments on my desk calendar, sticky notes (posted on my door and truck dash), and in my pocket calendar, all in ink. I do not own -- what do you call them? -- electronic planners, whatever . . .

Well, this morning I was thrown for a loop. A client called early and asked that I come over at 10:30 a.m., rather than at the originally scheduled 12:00. I said yes and rang off. Moments later, I realized that my notations, etched indelibly in ink on various snatches of paper, were null and void. I had to find a way to manage that earlier promised change of appointment and not blow my cool and an outward appearance of being in control. More importantly, I could not make erasures of nor draw lines through already written out appointments.

How do you handle your day-to-day planning and, if needed, adjust to sudden and unexpected changes to your calendar?

I don't know if I'll get through my day if anyone else calls and changes his appointment.

Coco, I just follow my nose. Whither goest my nose, I'll be close behind.

Not real scientific, but it has worked for me all my life!
